Summer 2010

Welcome to My Educational Technology Life Cycle! (C)ertificate : (M)asters

CEP 800 (M)
Learning in Schools and Other Settings
Instructors: P. Mishra

CEP 800 is a course that will acquaint students with several major psychological perspectives for appreciating learning that goes on in school and other settings. This was one of my first courses starting my journey into an educational field and educational technology. This is where I was exposed to various learning theories that I was able to reflect upon my personal experience as a learner and my previous experience as an instructor. The most valuable part of this course was being able to formally tie in learning theories to my past experiences and recognizing what theories could be applied in particular situations.

CEP 811 (C)
Adapting Innovative Tecnhnologies to Education
Instructors: C. Albin

CEP 811 is typically the second course you in the Educational Technology Certificate program, but for me it was the first. On of this best parts about this course were learning how to create and adapt a Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR) and a Web Quest. The StAIR assignment allowed me to understand that there are better ways to teach a topic. The Web Quest I created was for 12th graders to create a video game series, pitch, prototype, and present it. This quest took students around the life cycle of game development from idea to paper prototype.

In CEP 816, we examined new ways of teaching with technology to improve learning. This course exposed us to think about how technology’s evolution can shape the way we learn and teach. One thing I enjoyed about this course was the understanding of how current technologies can be used enhances education and learning. Before this course I was partially bias towards technology only being used for design and creation, but as one of the beginning courses of my educational technology journey, it helped me understand its use, power, and relevance in education

CEP 816 (M)
Technology, Teaching, and Learning Across the Curriculum
Instructor: R. Spiro

Spring 2011

CEP 810 (C)
Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructor: J. Spicer, S. Wright

For me, CEP 810 was the second course I took during the Educational Technology Certificate journey. This course introduced me to some of the foundation of educational technology such as: theories, technological mindsets, professional learning networks (PLN), creative technology uses, and most importantly TPACK. TPACK: Technological, Pedagogical, Content, and Knowledge is a framework that helps give you a better understanding of what knowledge is needed to by teacher to adequately practice technology in a learning atmosphere. I never knew how important TPACK would be in my professional future as well as my future in the MAET program.

CEP 812 (C)
Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Instructor: J. Spicer

CEP 812 was the last stop on my Educational Technology Certificate journey.  In this course we used various technologies to approach various problems in education and teaching.  In this course we worked on multiple projects such as a group leadership project, professional learning plan, and a wicked problem were some of the major projects. One of the best part about this course was the Wicked Problem assignment. I was the given the chance to think about a problem which lead me to creating a structured E-Mentoring program for high school students.

Summer 2011

CEP 822 (M)
Approaches to Educational Research
Instructor: E. Roeber

The CEP 822 identified alternative methods to research in education. In the course we explored multiple ways to collect data and understand the information and results from that data. We were given the opportunity to research problem in education and search for resolutions and apply statistics. The major project for this course was understanding and completing  a literature review.

Spring 2014

CEP 815 (M)
Technology and Leadership
Instructor: L. Wolf

CEP 815 is a  course that looks at multiple types of leadership and leadership thinking within the areas of business, education, and technology. The course helped identify the positives and negatives of various types of leaders in various environments and situations. The course concluded with a final project that was a proposal for an on-going, self-sustained technology initiative. What I enjoyed most about this course, was being challenged to think outside of your typical ways of thinking. My favorite lesson was the, Unit 3: Identifying Instrumental and Mission Thinking.

CEP 817 (M)
Learning Technology by Design
Instructor: P.Mishra

CEP 817 is a course that helps you explore the design process through the lens of educational technology. During this course you are tasked with developing yourself as a designer, and as designer how to work with and without restrictions or limits. The course concluded with two major projects, a Big Kahuna and a Final Paper. The Big Kahuna, is a website that is designed for the purpose of teaching a subject; my topic was how to create a game. The Final Paper was reflection paper looking at the course as a whole, what you learned, and your experience in the course.  One of my favorite lessons in this course was learning about what makes a design a QUALITY design, and writing a 55 Fiction.

CEP 807 (M)
Proseminar in Educational Technology
Instructor: L. Wolf

CEP 807 is the capstone course of MAET Program. In the course student create an online portfolio that captures the MAET experience as a whole. Students create these portfolios to express and display what they have learned during their tenure in the MAET Program. The course also helps develop your online professional appearance, but still allows you the freedom to express yourself. Not only do you receive vast amounts of feedback from your peers and instructors, but the assignments assist you with understanding yourself as a person, learner, and educational or technology leader.

CEP 820 (M)
Teaching Students Online
Instructor: A. Heintz

CEP 820 is a course that takes students into the world of online teaching. In this course I was introduced to learning management systems/course management systems, and given the opportunity to put together an online lesson. This course helps you think about it takes to put together a successful online course, while considering how to integrate class collaboration, media, and teaching fundamentals. I thoroughly enjoyed this course because it gave the chance to not only further my technology knowledge base, but also instructional design and teaching aspects as well.  I created a course for popular culture using both Haiku and CourseSite, so I will be able have understand, compare and contrast the differences with both sites.
